Ten Newsrooms Selected To Join The Ag & Water Desk
This morning, Report for America announced the selection of 10 partner newsrooms that will join the Ag & Water Desk in 2022. The newsrooms, ranging from small investigative nonprofits to major dailies and public media, each will receive salary support to hire a full-time environmental reporter as part of the collaboration.

Journalists may apply for the 10 positions through Report for America until Jan. 31. Those selected as Report for America corps members will cover individual beats for their host newsrooms and also work together on regional and national projects throughout the year. The corps members will receive ongoing training, mentorship, and expenses-paid travel to the annual conference of the Society of Environmental Journalists, in addition to other benefits.

Expert Journalist applications open until Jan. 14, 2022
Experienced staffers who already cover agriculture, water and related issues in the Mississippi Basin, or who possess some other skill essential to the success of the Desk, can apply to be Expert Journalists. In this role, they’ll support the emerging reporters, help determine the editorial direction of the Desk, participate in training and strategy sessions, and lead special reporting projects. These existing journalists will report to their own newsrooms, work in partnership with the Editorial Director and receive grants of $5,000 per year, which could be used for salary support or reporting expenses. These senior reporters support the editorial mission of the project and provide more impact and reach for the stories. Learn more and apply.
